Edgemont eighth-grader Alyson Kornberg is now a reigning State Champion. On Sunday, March 20 at Wellsville High School in Wellsville, New York, Kornberg became Edgemont?s first ever US Girls Wrestling Association New York State Champion.
In the Middle School division, Kornberg was the only competitor at her weight class, 122 pounds. This automatically qualified her for the USGWA National Championships, in which she will be competing on Saturday, April 2 in Ysplanti, Michigan.
With no competition in the Middle School Division, Kornberg also competed in the High School Division, in which she placed 3rd in New York State. Kornberg compiled a 3-2 record on the day, with two of her wins coming over high school seniors. She had two pins and a major decision on the day. Great job, Aly!
