So I guess since Thanksgiving has come and passed, I really have no excuse to not start out my (hopefully almost) weekly updates to you.
Some would say it?s the ?Holiday Season.? I think what most of your would all say is it?s the ?Wrestling Season,? so let?s jump right in!
Why Wrestle?
With a new year comes a new batch of recruiting posters! These bad boys have been gracing the halls of Edgemont High School since September, so I figured we had to give you guys a look!
Welcome?to the family!
So with nine returning varsity wrestlers, I know I?ve heard from more than a few of you asking what our roster would look like this year?
Well, the youth movement is in full effect. We have 22 on our roster and exactly 11 of them are freshmen! We have two more sophomore rookies, as well.
It?s a lot of new faces and a TON of potential. We?ll be introducing them to you over the next few emails, but figured we?d kick things off with the newest coach in our family.
He looks much less mean in person!
Brett Pastore will be joining us as a volunteer assistant coach this year and we couldn?t be happier to have him! Brett was a two-time Section Champion for Irvington HS and went on to wrestle for DII Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. Brett graduated earlier this year from Shippensburg with a degree in Social Studies Education. In addition to his wrestling background, Brett also competes in several other martial arts, including boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and thumb wrestling.
Brett has been an amazing resource in the room working with our wrestlers each day. We are so happy to have him with us!
Welcome to the family, Brett!
The perfect holiday gifts
It?s that time! Our annual Edgemont Wrestling apparel store is now open for a VERY limited time. In fact the store will be closing on 12/10 and will not be open again until next winter. Get your Edgemont gear now and be ready for the season!
All orders will be shipped in bulk to me at Edgemont HS, so if you live out of the area, have no fear! When we receive the gear, I?ll drop yours in the mail to you! Can?t promise you?ll get it by Christmas, but you should get it before New Years.
If you lose the email, the link to the store is easy to remember:?edgemontwreslting.org/gear
The Panthers take the mats
Last but not least, before I jump off for now, wanted to send you guys our full competition schedule for the season.
We kick things off in style this Saturday at the Horace Greeley duals. We?ll wrestle 4 or 5 matches against some quality competition from in and out of Section 1. Wrestling starts at 9:30 AM at Horace Greeley HS in Chappaqua. Stop by if you can!
But, I figured, as long as I?ve got your attention, I?d give you some important dates that we?d really like to see you guys!
On Friday 1/19 at 6 PM we?re hosting Irvington in what will hopefully become an annual tradition. Our two teams will be using this event as a fundraiser for a charity to be decided upon. It will be a great match for a great cause and we?d love your support – stay tuned for more info!
The 36th Annual Edgemont Wrestling Tournament will be held on Saturday 1/27. The Edgemont Tournament has become one of the largest tournaments in Section 1, featuring 20 teams and over 200 wrestlers. Action kicks off at 9 AM and runs all day!
Finally, while we don?t yet know the location, the 2018 Section 1 Championships will be held on Friday 2/9 and Saturday 2/10. Preliminary rounds will start around 4:30 PM on Friday and the semi-finals will kick off the action on Saturday morning at about 9 AM. We?ll obviously send you more details when we get them!
You can find our (almost) always-up-to-date schedule at?edgemontwrestling.org/schedule
That?s it for now – talk to you soon!

Pete
