Jacobson announces Panther Coaching Staff

Alayon and Jacobson

Head Coach Pete Jacobson today solidified his staff for his?inaugural?season as Head Coach and the Panthers’ 2011-2012 campaign. “I couldn’t be more excited about the staff we’ve assembled,” Jacobson said. “Each coach not only has a great wrestling background and the enthusiasm and abilities we were seeking, but each is also a great role model and demonstrates the values that are important to our program and that we work to instill in our student-athletes. I think we now have the best coaching staff in New York State.”

Promoted to Head Assistant Coach is third-year staff veteran Manny Alayon. “I’m honored to continue my career at Edgemont and look forward to this expanded role and working with the tremendous staff we have brought in. We have built a great foundation the past few years and are really in a position to take it to another level.”Alayon has been an integral part of Edgemont’s program for the past several years in addition to running the Invictus Wrestling Club in the off-season and working as a strength and conditioning coach. As a competitor Alayon was a three-time All-Section recipient, three-time County Champ and three-time Divisional Champ.

Also returning to the program are second-year assistants Sean Ross ’06 and Mike Mitchell. Ross wrestled under Jacobson at Edgemont for four years and captained the team his senior year. Mitchell was a two-time NCAA finalist at 174 pounds for Division II American International University in Massachusetts in 2000 and 2001.

Finally, the Panthers are proud to announce two new additions to the staff, Tim Hopkins and John Marsh. Hopkins comes to Edgemont having graduated from Messiah College in Pennsylvania in May of this year. He was a three-year starter in the Messiah program and has significant experience working with high school and middle school wrestlers. Marsh was a 2010 graduate of Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. He was a two-time National Qualifier, the 2010 New England Conference’s Most Outstanding Wrestler honoree and an NCAA All-American at 149 lbs.

The staff is eager to start the season and help propel the Panthers to new heights!
