Panthers take out Irvington Bulldogs

Sophomore Will Graybeal helped the Panthers cause with a third
period pin over Irvington’s Andrew Wassmann at 132 pounds.

As the Panther?s opened up their League Dual Meet schedule in the new calendar year, they also opened up some firepower on the Irvington Bulldogs this Thursday.

The Panthers traveled to Irvington High School for a 7:00 PM match that was also Irvington?s Annual Senior Night. Despite forfeiting four weight classes for 24 points, Edgemont could not be deterred and came away with a 51-33 victory that included victories in 10 out of 12 wrestled bouts, with 9 of 10 wins coming by way of pin.

Edgemont started things off with senior and captain Danny Kornberg at 220 pounds. Kornberg made quick work of the Bulldog?s Adam Kreiger scoring a takedown and three near fall points before putting Kreiger away at 1:01.

Next up, 8th grade 99-pounder Kyle Aslanian matched Kornberg?s feat with a 1:09 fall over a larger Gideon Burnstein. Kyle?s brother Tyler continued the trend at 106 pounds, pinning Irvington?s Tyler Wexler in 3:10 after racking up an impressive four takedowns in the first period.

Junior Sky Korek bumped up a weight for the Panthers to 113 pounds and beat a tough Justin Jiminez by 9-2 decision. Junior Trey Aslanian and Senior Max Abramsky, Edgemont?s two other captains, also bumped up to 120 and 126 pounds, respectively and each came away with first period falls. Aslanian in an impressive nine seconds and Abramsky in 42.

Sophomore Will Graybeal and senior Pete Berman each came away with third period pins, as well, controlling their entire matches.

Junior Jack McCormack dropped a tough match to Irvington?s Ryan Pastore at 145 pounds and Saumil Kothari lost a hard-fought decision at 152 pounds.

Finally, freshman Dylan Huff continued to shine in an exhibition bout which he won by fall.

The Panthers next take the mat this weekend at the Shoreline Tournament at New Rochelle High School and the Ardsley Tournament.
