ALBANY, N.Y. — Trey Aslanian has made a steady progression in his previous two New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships.

The Edgemont junior finished fifth in 2010 and was second last year. Aslanian, seeded second at 113 pounds in Division II (small school), is one step away from taking another step forward to the ultimate goal — a state title.

Aslanian recorded two wins on Friday at the Times Union Center, earning a berth in the semifinals.

Wrestling will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the semifinals in both divisions. The championship finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Even though both matches were low scoring, Aslanian was in complete control.

He began his day with a 7-0 win over Jack Legueleff of Oyster Bay (L.I.) and earned his semifinal berth with a 6-2 verdict over Tonowanda?s Cody McGregor.

Tyler Aslanian won his first match, by major decision, 8-0, over Tanner Lapiene of Ogdensburg Free Academy. Following a loss in the quarterfinal round, Aslanian rebounded to decision Dolan McColgan of Petrides (New York City), 7-1.
