Junior Trey Aslanian is Edgemont’s active wins leader |
What you probably wouldn?t hear him mention was how many individual wins he accrued.
So what Trey might not mention to you, we certainly will: on Friday night in our match against Fox Lane, Trey became only the 6th Edgemont Wrestlers to amass 100 career victories.
Starting off on the Varsity team as an eighth-grader, Aslanian has had a tremendous career so far for the Panthers. Three-for-three in Section Final appearances; two Section Titles; two All-State performances, including a runner-up finish last year and many assorted tournament titles to go along with it.
All this success led to a 2010-2011 season that ended with 98 career wins. The counter was paused at this number for nine months until Edgemont?s season-opening tournament Friday night.
Wrestling at the Tony Carlucci Duals at SUNY Purchase, the Panthers opened up with a 46-33 win over Iona Prep where Aslanian notched a 1:11 pin over Iona?s John Perez for number 99.
Next up was the #1 ranked Large School team in the Section and many people?s prediction for the #1 team in the state, Fox Lane. Again Aslanian went to work right away and ended it in 26 seconds with the fall over Warren Gatrillo.
Trey ended the weekend with four more victories ? one pin, one tech fall and two forfeits to sit at 104 career victories and counting.
The record at Edgemont is 150 career wins set by Genta Murayama ?09. Only a junior, Aslanian is on pace to set his own new record.
