As I touched on yesterday, over the course of the next two weeks I?ll be posting a number of these profiles in a series I?m calling, ?Meet the Champs!? This will give us an opportunity to highlight as many section champs as possible on the blog by asking them to answer not only some wrestling questions, but also a few fun ones that give us a chance to get to know them better off of the mat. First up is Edgemont?s Tyler Aslanian.

Aslanian captured his first section title this season with a dramatic 6-4 win over defending champ Joe Dillon of Nanuet. His older brother Trey has placed at the state level, and Aslanian seems to be following along on the same path. Here are his responses:

Year: Sophomore

Weight class: 99 in D2

How many years have you been wrestling for? I started wrestling in fourth or fifth grade. During the last two years, I really starting putting the time in during the offseason. It truly makes a difference.

Is this your first section title? YES this is my first section title. I finished third last year. This season I also won the Edgemont Tournament, the North Rockland Tournament,? and the Ardsley Tournament.

Describe what was going through your head when the referee raised your hand after the finals: That I did it! I won! All my hard work payed off.

What was the most difficult obstacle that you had to overcome this season? To feel good, stay healthy, and get ready to do what I know I am capable of doing.

What area do you feel that you?ve improved in the most over the course of the season? Mat strategy is something I am always trying to improve.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of wrestling? I like to hang out with my friends, play video games, and listen to country and classic rock music.

What is your favorite food? BBQ ribs.

Favorite professional athlete? Brett Favre.

Name one thing that?s interesting about you that people may not know about: I have three brothers and two sisters.
