Panther alumni Dave Rice ’08 kicked off his senior season at NYU the right way – with a tournament victory at the Ithaca Invitational.
Wrestling at 165 lbs, Rice began the day with a 10-1 major decision over Doug Kramer of Ithaca College. In the semi-finals, Rice faced?Nick Bach of Centenary College who he bested with a 3-2 decision.
Finally, in the championship match, Rice took on #6-nationally-ranked Nick Sanko of Ithaca College. Rice got off to an early lead, up by 4 after two periods. Sanko came on strong in the third period, but Rice managed to hold him at bay for the 9-8 decision and his first Ithaca Invitational title.
Unranked Rice hopes to continue making noise in the Centennial Conference as the season continues.
