Division 2 –
- Nanuet: The Golden Knights might not only be the best team in D2, but possibly the best team in Rockland. A first place finish at the Michael O?Connell Tournament, wins over large schoolsClarkstown South, Tappan Zee and Nyack, plus a 28th place finish at the Eastern States are some impressive achievements on Nanuet?s resume. Anthony Paratore took third place at 215 at the Eastern States, notching a huge win over defending D1 section champ Lucas Myer. I don?t see anyone touching him for a section title. (PR: 1)
- Edgemont: Trey Aslanian making it to the semis at the Eastern States was a major statement of how good he can be. I would have been curious to see how he would have fared at the Shoreline at 103, but a minor skin issue came up right before the tourney that held him out. The Panthers have been on a roll of late, and I believe they have a good chance of placing high at their own tournament this coming weekend. (PR: 4)
- Croton-Harmon: The Tigers picked up a big win over Pleasantville on 01/06, which provided me with a good reason to leave CH ahead of the them for these rankings. They lost to Edgemont by three points earlier in the season, which gives the Panthers a slight edge up to this point. A dual meet against Westlake was snowed out last week, but I believe that Croton has the lineup to pull it out. Coach Occhipinti has his team headed in the right direction. (PR: 2)
- Pleasantville: A loss to Croton and a win over Westlake (45-41 on 01/04) leaves Pleasantville smack in the middle of the two teams. Andrew Serino has been impressive at 125, while Steven Paternastro came away with a title at the Scarsdale tourney at 96. (PR: 5)
- Westlake: The Wildcats finished higher than any other D2 team at the Scarsdale tourney, as Dean Rogener (119) and Tony Ferranti (135) came away with titles. A win over Croton would mean a lot, and would certainly justify a jump in the rankings. (PR: 3)
Other teams to watch: Irvington, Ardsley
