Panthers down Eagles

Edgemont established their dominance early and never let go in their 46-27 win over the Eastchester Eagles at Eastchester?s Waverly School yesterday.

The Panthers continued their undefeated League dual meet streak and advanced to 3-0 with additional wins over Irvington and Ardsley. The match started off at 135 pounds as Sophomore Jack McCormack notched an impressive 39-second pin over Jared Martin. Not to be outdone, Sophomore Mike Rothstein followed up McCormack?s win with a 1:45 fall of his own. After Sophomore Ross Kantor received a forfeit at 145 pounds, Sophomore Jason Worobow continued the Panther?s performance at 152 pounds with a first period takedown. He followed it up with a reversal in the third period which led to his eventual pin at 4:57.
Next up, Oliver Oks wrestled a tough match against Eastchester?s Giuseppe DeLuca (16-1 on the season). Oks dropped a close decision, showing why he will continue to emerge as a force in Section 1.? Junior Captain Danny Kornberg wrestled Eastchester?s other stand-out Nick Coco and dropped a tough one.
Wrapping back around to the light-weights, the Panther?s wasted no time righting the ship with a major decision at 96 pounds by Tyler Aslanian and pins by Sky Korek, Trey Aslanian and Max Abramsky at 103, 112 and 119 pounds, respectively.
Finally, Freshmen Will Graybeal and Riki Mistry continued their impressive development. Although both lost their matches, the heart and fight they continue to show impresses the coaches and more experienced wrestlers on the team.
Next up for the Panthers are two tournaments this weekend as the squad splits to take in the action at both the Shoreline and Ardsley Tournaments this Saturday. Action starts for Shoreline at 9:00 AM at New Rochelle High School and for the Ardsley Tournament at 9:30 AM.
