Edgemont Alumni David Rice ’08 of the New York University wrestling team was selected University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Monday, January 10, after an impressive weekend on the mat.
Rice recorded two pins for NYU at the Virginia Duals in Hampton, VA, on Friday and Saturday. Wrestling at 165 pounds, he pinned his opponent from King College in just 1:22 in a 26-25 opening-round loss.
In the next match, a 25-24 NYU win over St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Rice wrestled at 174 pounds and pinned his opponent in only 46 seconds.
Rice finished 2-1 at the competition as NYU posted a 1-2 team record. For the season, he has an overall mark of 7-7.
This is Rice’s first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
NYU returns to action on Saturday when it travels back to Virginia, this time to Lexington, for the Washington and Lee University Invitational. The invitational is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
