Last week it was the Eastchester Eagles, this week the Panthers clipped another set of Eagle?s wings. Edgemont beat the Dobbs Ferry Eagles 48-18 at Dobbs Ferry High School on Tuesday and advanced to a perfect 4-0 in League competition.
This week’s win was with a different cast of characters, as the Panthers rested most of their starters to save their eligibility for later in the season. The Panthers started out with Tyler Aslanian at 96 pounds, and wasted no time jumping out to a 6-0 lead off of Aslanian?s 3:48 fall over Nick Cipriano.
The Eagles came back strong, rattling off two pins by Josh Dooz and Jimmy Kyreakedes, Dobbs Ferry?s captains, over Panther freshmen Stephen Weiss and Noah Whittle.
The Panthers responded with wins by David Hyon, Tommy Jachemczyk, Pete Berman, Ross Kantor and Chris Kim. Kantor at 152 pounds notched his win with a dramatic pin 18 seconds into the second period over Adam Rosenkranz.
Finally, the ?Big Boys? stepped up to seal the deal for the Panthers. Captain Danny Kornberg (215 pounds) won in dominant fashion over Dobbs Ferry?s Dennis Deleon with a 3:14 fall.
Junior Dave ?The Beast? Chun followed up with a pin of his own at 3:31 over Joe Morello.
The Panthers will take the mat in two more League matches this year as they battle the Woodlands Falcons at Home on Thursday, January 13th and the Hastings Yellow Jackets at Hastings High School on Thursday, January 27th at 4:30 PM.
