ALBANY, N.Y. ? Trey Aslanian was disappointed following his runner-up finish in the 113-pound weight class at the New York State Public High School Association Division II Wrestling Championships on Saturday, but he?s already planning for next year.
?I was hoping that if I won I was going to take a week off,? Aslanian said. ?Tomorrow, when I get home, I am going to watch the tape, get back in the gym and work on the things I need to work on and reach my goal of winning a national title.?
Sean Peacock of Midlakes defeated Aslanian, 5-0, at the Times Union Center. It was the second consecutive runner-up finish for Aslanian, who concluded with a 39-2 record and is 137-13 in his career. Aslanian became Edgemont’s first two-time state finalist and three-time state place-finisher.
?I thought I had a great tournament up until this point,? Aslanian said. ?It came down to a couple of little positions that I usually win. It is a couple of technical things that I need to work on.
?I wanted to get that first takedown so I was going for my front headlock. Every time I went for it, he was going with a 2-on-1 on my wrist. He was stymieing my offense and that threw me off my game plan.?
