The 2010-2011 Wrestling Season is only weeks away. This year, Edgemont will be taking on opponents from all over the state and the Northeast. “Our schedule, as always, is designed to challenge our athletes and get them as much competition as possible,” said First Assistant Coach Pete Jacobson. “As always everything we do is with an eye towards the post-season and preparing our athletes for Sectional and State Titles.”
The home schedule features five dates and starts with the Annual Blue and White Match on Wednesday, December 1 which serves as the Panthers’ first wrestle-off to determine the startling line-up for the first portion of the season. Other home dates include league matches against the Irvington Bulldogs (alma mater of Head Coach George DiChiara), the cross-town Ardsley Panthers and the Woodlands Falcons (alma mater of Assistant Coach Jedd Chesterson) on December 21, December 23 and January 13, respectively.
The 29th Annual Edgemont Invitational Wrestling Tournament will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011. The field features 19 teams competing on four mats and is the arguably the strongest field to compete at the tournament. Teams representing Section 1, Section 9, Private Schools and Connecticut will be represented.
Other highlights include the Bronx River Cup Wrestling Classic, held annually between Edgemont and the neighboring Scarsdale Raiders, which will be held at Scarsdale on Thursday, January 20. Edgemont will also again send a squad to the Eastern States Classic held at Sullivan County Community College on January 14 and 15. The Eastern States is considered by many to be “the toughest tournament in New York State” and features 80 teams from four states.
